Jessica is a single mother of three boys, Lane, Payton, and Deacon. She is also a survivor of Stage 4 malignant melanoma, an advanced skin cancer. After a valiant battle with some brutal radiation and chemo she overcame the cancer but being Stage 4, there was always an ever-present threat that could return at any time. Shortly after this victory Jessica conceived, Shortly after this victory Jessica conceived, and things seemed to be on the upswing but soon after she was hit yet again. After nine long months of waiting, the family arrived at the hospital ready to meet their new addition. However, once in the delivery room the family was devastated to learn that their daughter had passed away; that she was stillborn. It turned out that Jessica’s system was still too weak, and the baby was unable to pull through. It was a very hard loss for her and the rest of the family.
Several years later, Jessica become a widow. In 2015, her husband David was killed on the side of a highway in a tragic accident. He was struck by multiple passing vehicles and killed instantly in front of Jessica and the three boys. Jessica was left behind to carve out a living for herself and the boys to the best of her ability, which she did with tenacious success and little complaint. I vividly remember the pain and heartbreak the family was going through but was always amazed at her ability to keep it all on the rails.
Three years later, Jessica and the boys decided to move to New York State to be closer to our mother’s family, who had offered to help her with the boys. While there, things again began to improve. Jessica had met someone new; the boys were doing well in school and life finally seemed to be returning to normal. Things stayed good until May of this year, when the doctors informed her that a biopsy had returned with a positive result. The cancer was back, this time as stage 4 metastatic melanoma. The doctors scheduled her for immediate treatment once again, which this time will include surgery as well as another year of chemo. As of now she has already completed another 20 rounds of radiation and many more Yo come. We just recently found out that the radiation and chemo has not work. Looking into new treatment idea
